Are You Preparing Your Child For The Arrival Of A New Sibling?

Are you expecting to have a child soon? Maybe you are adopting or fostering a child. For whatever reason your family is increasing in size, you are more than likely wanting to prepare the child you already have to share time with a new sibling. From having scheduled playtime with friends to looking at a child day care center, here are some ideas that might help you to prepare your child for the arrival of a new sibling.

Scheduled Play Dates - Of course, your child might already be spending a lot of time with friends. If so, he or she is already used to sharing toys and taking turns. However, if your child is young enough that scheduled play dates have not been part of his or her life, consider starting a play group. It might be a good idea to just have one or two children over at first so that your child can get used to playing with others. Consider, too, being a part of the play activities so that your little boy or your little girl can have the experience of sharing you with others. While you give each child special attention, let your own child know that, even though there are other children in his or her play circle, he still holds the most special place in your heart. For example, if you are reading a book to the children, every now and then get your child's attention and just simply wink at him or her.

A Child Day Care Center - Have you thought of putting your child in a safe place where there are structured activities that involve other children? Enrolling your child in a child day care center might be one of the best things you can do to prepare him or her for the arrival of a new sibling. Your child will be receiving lots of attention from other adults and he or she will have the experience of playing with other children while learning skills and acquiring knowledge. If you do decide to enroll your child in a day care center, let the caregivers know that you are preparing your child for the arrival of a new sibling so that they can incorporate that information into your child's day.

As you await the arrival of a new sibling for your child, consider asking him or her to help you buy things like new toys and new clothes, also buying new things for your child while you are shopping. Contact a school, like Carousel Of Learning Pre-School & Nursery, for more help.
